Merula Ltd.

ADSL is a system that provides an internet service which is permanently connected via your ordinary BT telephone line and which works at speeds considerably faster than can be achieved with either modem or ISDN.

How does it work?
At your local exchange, BT will install a device that is capable of mixing two different signals on your telephone line. Once the exchange has been upgraded, you can have your phone line 'converted '. A filter is installed at your end of the line, which splits the signal -- your voice telephone line continues to work as before, but you also have a permanent digital connection to an internet service provider via the new 'data' channel. A modem or router is then connected to this, and to one or more computers, resulting in permanent, fast internet access.

Why choose Merula?
Merula is committed to providing unrivalled speed and reliability through our ADSL service. We also offer the best support possible to our users when setting up and using ADSL. This includes our unique set-up service for users local to Merula.

Merula also has a number of extra services available to ADSL customers, including a filtered Web Proxy server, providing peace of mind to parents, email virus scanning and SPAM filtering.

Can I have ADSL?
At present, ADSL is only available to users who are connected to an exchange that has been upgraded by BT. You can check if your line supports ADSL by visiting the BT website.

If ADSL is not yet available in your area, but you are still interested in Broadband access, please let us know. BT upgrade exchanges based upon user demand and we can register your interest with BT.

What do I need to use ADSL?
As well as an ADSL account from Merula, you will also need to purchase an ADSL modem or router. You can buy these from a supplier, following advice from Merula, or you can purchase directly from Merula at a competitive rate - in many cases, we can also pre-configure them so you can just plug in and go.

This sounds complicated - Can you help?
We are more than happy to help or answer any questions you may have regarding ADSL. If you are considering ADSL and require further information, please email adsl-questions@merula.net. If you have purchased ADSL from Merula, please email adsl-support@merula.net or call our support desk on +44 (0)1480 373999.

If you live locally to Merula's main office, we can provide a full installation service which includes setting up ADSL on your computer and checking any security settings to ensure you can get the most from our services. If you live further afield, we have a self-help sheet to guide you through installation process - and there's always our friendly support team waiting to take your call.
